Chill and Acoustic Stage

The chill stage will run for most of the weekend and will host several live bands, acoustic performers and jam sessions, aswell as chilled eclectic sounds from djs in a restful environment.
Its the perfect place to take a break, enjoy chill out with some food or drink, share a quiet moment with a friend and soak up some friendly musical vibes.

Tijuana Cartel express phenomenal diversity and introduce a somewhat intelligent and original sound to the ear, bringing flamenco guitar, slide guitar, MCs,trumpet, live and electronic percussion,and scratch DJs to the live forum. Their musical energy & unrestrained delivery is thrilling audiences wherever they perform . Their tunes meander their way across the bumpiest musical terrain, a rhythmic body moved with stately deliberation creating inspiring & infectious rhythms that you just cannot help but dance to. It is a live show not to miss..Their performances are a concoction of multi-layered grooves, splashes of Middle Eastern vocals, lilting Moby-esque soundscapes, Flamenco and slide guitar, trumpet, electronic world beats and percussion all randomly supported by poetic social commentary and song courtesy of MC Regan Hoskins.

A French Butler called Smith
A FRENCH BUTLER called SMITH first starting jamming together in mid 2008 and began formulating their own new style of organic funk and world roots music. Consisting of Scott French, Jake 'the Butler' Martin and Brennan Smith, the instrumental trio have been busy pumping dancefloors and jamming with various guests from horn sections to didgeridoos and occasional guest vocalists. They've just finished recording their debut EP recorded at Lovestreet Studios and are planning to take their new funk, latin, reggae, gypsy sound to audiences far and wide.
 
In the three years since forming, Shoebox has had unprecidented success as the Gold Coast's only acoutic reggae two peace. Having played over 300 shows and supporting the likes of G.Love and Special Sauce, Ozomatli and Wild Marmalade, Shoebox have shown that they are able to hold their own with of the worlds best. Not restricting themselves to just live performance, Shoebox have written soundtracks for such feature films as "Susan's Faith" and new T.V series "The Surf Show". Shoebox have quickly established themselves as one of the Gold Coast favorite party bands and with their current EP "JiggyJiggy" holding the top 7 spots on the MP3.com.au reggae and swing charts for more than 4 consecutive months, they are proving that they are here to stay.

Mindcontrol is musician, DJ, producer and anthropologist Chris Lovell. He plays a hypnotic combination of psy-chill, dub, progressive to full-on psytrance. As we step into The Golden age, I feel we need to come back to the basics, come together, share and buy locally… Musically I have a vast collection of music ranging from funk, soul, reggae, smooth grooves, trip hop, dub, psy trance, electro, breaks, down tempo, low-fi, ragga jungle, lounge and acid jazz. Some of the gigs I’ve played are The Dreaming, Woodford, Wulumbin festival, Wonderland 1 & 2, Shapeshifters, Exodus and Island vibe 2 with residency at The Loft. Ps. Abby Sky [Melbourne]
Abby Skye is the musical equivalent of a nuclear blast – you will be blown away. She can seemingly sing any note in the audible spectrum and has mastery over any genre you care to name. She is a multi instrumentalist, an accomplished sound engineer and sublime producer. When I first heard her EP I assumed it was a major label promo from some truly huge artist. But she did the entire thing herself! Sang, wrote the tunes and produced it. She is down right amazing!

Phil'n'the Missin Bits [Brisbane]
Phil and his 44 piece big jazz band, all of whom are unfortunately unaccounted for, and have 'officially' been declared missing since the band first started nearly 2 years ago, how ironic is that? So that just leaves Phil, who is still cashing in using the original band's name Phil'n the Missing Bits, and still playing all their hits that made them the household name they were at the time, maybe even today.
Phil has been djing only for the past couple of years, not seriously ever, but has become the opening set expert in that short time. Delve into a cocktail of sweet and salty psychedelic jazz twisted maximinimal avant gard techno swing.

Mistress Kim [S.E.QLD]
Mistress Kim’s musical pilgrimage began at Auckland University’s campus radio 95bFM with the notorious Graveyard shift. From there it was across the Tasman to Brisbane’s Triple Z, where she hosted the Origin New Music hour, before seeking greener pastures with Hott FM and the daily Source Top 20 show. For the last nine and a half years, Mistress Kim has found her spiritual home as hostess of Outer Limits on Gold Coast’s 105.7FM Radio Metro, every Tuesday from 9-11pm. This creature can also be found Djing at everything from cafes and bowls clubs, to parties and the Swingin Safari in Surfers Paradise. Expect electro-breaks, acid funk, global beats, trip-hop and leftfield leanings.
