Main Stage

The Main Stage will run Friday evening through to saturday midday, closing for a few hours to allow focus for the talk and workshop content aspect of Earth Freq and some live bands, then re-opening at sunset Saturday through to sunset Sunday.

Expect a deep tribal dance experience with a stellar lineup of some of the freshest Techno, PsyTrance and Progressive sounds around, plus a very special saturday evening program and opening ceremony.

 

 

Talpa – Live [UpRecords/MMR/SunDance] [Serbia]

Goran Juric was born in 1982 in Subotica, Serbia and at the age of 4, was already showing a keen interest in music, pestering his parents to learn the piano. Amazingly and in hindsight quite incorrectly his school considered him to be without talent, so consequently he chose instead to play tennis. It wasn’t until he was 15 that the pull of his considerable talent influenced him to begin once more his passion, when he finally started writing electronic music. Three years later and he was mastering the tools of production, the results of which were developing more and more every day, Goran was at this time devoting up to 16 hours each day learning about production and composition, all self taught.  Talpa’s style varies from track to track, it’s melodic and funky, wrapped in a psychedelic carnival covering. His style is unique with no other artist in the world writing anything close to his sound. You always know when you’re hearing a Talpa composition and you can be assured the story to each of his tracks is always unique. After a full 3 years, his new album, “When the Somberness Becomes a Game” is awaiting release by Sundance Records this spring. The album has a completely different and fresh story yet remains faithful to the Talpa sound we all love. He also has several tracks ready to be released on compilations by such Aussie labels as UP Records, MMR, and Adapted records, with a third album to be released by UP & MMR in 2009.

Eric Estornel, under the names MAETRIK, MARIEL ITO, and simply ESTORNEL - has been contributing to his musical world around him since 93. First a dj, and later developing his skills as a producer, Eric has always searched for the future of electronic dance. Not being confined by rules of styles or genres is most important to Eric, as he makes his way through a political and fickle industry.  Eric as Maetrik has released music on such respected labels as Treibstoff, SubStatic, Morris Audio, Onitor, Immigrant, Iron Box Music, and many others.
 

 

Deadbeat - Live [Wagon Repair/~Scape] [Canada]

Deadbeat is one Scott Monteith, a long time Montrealer and recent Berlin ex-pat who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden, minimal electronics since 2000, for labels such as Cynosure, Scape, and Wagon Repair to name but a few. His work has been met with consistent critical acclaim from the industry's leading publications and websites, and drawn regular performance invitations for some of the world's most respected festivals, including Barcelona's Sonar, Berlin's Transmediale, and Montreal's own Mutek. From 1999 to late 2003, Scott worked, assuming various roles, for the Montreal based company Applied Acoustics Systems, makers of a range of critically acclaimed software synthesizers. Having now moved on to pursue his own musical efforts full time, the experience left him with a passion for the development of new creative interfaces, and a strong grasp of some the most cutting edge technology in the industry. A certified music technology junkie, his knowledge in such matters has been occasionally called upon at various events, most notably the 2007 edition of the Red Bull Music Academy in Melbourne, Australia, and as a writer for Computer Music Magazine. Whether crafting kaleidoscopic house and techno, snap-clap digital dancehall, or impossibly heavy dub, Scott continues to search for his own unique voice between the ones and zeros.

 Noa Zoe is Nathalie, born 1988 in a small city somewhere in germany. Her first experiences with electronic music she gathered in the year 2003 in the drum n bass scene. 2005 was the year where she established first contact with psychedelic parties and was immediately thrilled by the culture and the sound in this scene. It was this enthusiasm which led her to share her taste of music with the people on the floors. Once she was able to acquire her own equipment with the help of friends in early 2007 she started playing on smaller parties that summer. With time going by, her experience grew and she quickly developed her style which is influenced heavily by her love for deep psychedelic night tunes. In spring 2008 she realized that DJing is not enough and she started to learn production techniques from the well known artists and good friends Bombax, Electrypnose and Antagon. These lessons have allready led her to the first VS tracks with Bombax being under production. So stay tuned...“

 

 

Wombat – Live [Iboga/Open Records] [Melbourne]

Wombat is the side project of well known Australian artist - Sun Control Species. It’s only taken two releases from the project to push himself to the forefront of the underground progressive music scene. First, the track Ride Control, the birth of a new Australian marsupial. Second, and more recently, was the much-anticipated release Helo, an attitude-filled stormer for clubs and outdoors alike that is currently being remixed by fellow Australian master Kasey Taylor. Both tracks featured on Open Records compilations and have received great feedback from DJs, artists and critics world-wide. Now clear of the fledgling undergrowth, the Wombat is free to go where it wishes, with wide-open spaces ahead. 2008 sees new tracks like Rush Hour on Iboga Records come to the fore; followed by a new EP on Open Records in the final part of the year. All are promising convergences of minimal infused progressive and progressively infused techno, signaling the way forward - and beyond - for future releases. A freeform, multi-genre full-length album could be seen in the following year, if one watches closely. Wombats aren’t known for their deep understanding of the music business, nor for their cunningly written biographies. What they are known for is their ineffable desire to go their own way, slowly and surely. A wombat is a wombat, you see; it makes no apologies.

Having released 3 top quality solo albums,stacks of tracks for compilations and performed live at just about every major Trance festival, Sensient's production experience and skill should be enough to mark him as one of Australias highest achievers in the Trance scene. But why stop there? Many moons ago Sensient founded Zenon Records which has developed into one of the Worlds best Trance labels. Having been a solid mentor to a lot of upcoming acts and exposed the talents of many underground producers in Australia and world wide, Zenon has formed an entire musical movement which has heavily influenced the Trance/Festival scene.

 

 

Shadow FX vs Tetrameth – Live [Zenon] [Melb]

Brothers James and Peter Hayes bring you a collaboration of their unique styles that has proven to be one of the hits of the 2008 Australian scene. Each with their own very personalised style but with an underlying depth of musicality brought on by a lifetime's passion for music, Shadow FX and Tetrameth gel with a level of understanding that it seems only siblings can create. Their set combines a blend of both artists' individual tracks along with many of their collaborative works released on such labels as Zenon, ZMA, BioSine and Cosmic Conspiracy. Expect a journey of stinky bottom end, intelligent melodies, twisted effects and intricate percussion all with the brothers' signature use of inspiring vocal sampling. This is music for your ears, feet and most importantly, mind. Lock in, open up and enjoy.

 

 

Rhythm Nectar- Live [Open Records] [Cairns]

Rhythm Nectar is Cairns born and bred producer Lucas Neal. Producing seriously for roughly 3 years he has played at countless parties and festivals in the far north as well as more recent events in the north coast of NSW. His productions are never strictly one genre and vary from deep prog house (trance)/ tech house/ techno/ downbeat and IDM. He believes in keeping strong musical elements and structures wilst maintaining groove and dancefloor flow. 2009 will see his first release with Open Records with more releases in the pipeline for other well established oz prog labels.

Spoonbill’s latest call from the wild is both cerebral sonic entertainment and smoothly-beaten groove, coming together as a heavily edited fusion of live recorded instrumentation and fabricated electronica. From antique tones to genre-warping sound art, The sound of Spoonbill is a mastery of chaos. Enticing listeners with a smooth, shiny shell of downtempo groove, the Spoonytune breaks open to reveal a thick and fast-flowing yolk of intricate beat chemistry. Onstage, Spoonbill crafts an elegant and quirky symphony of honey-scented grooves, jovial humour and joyous beat trickery, melding an ever-evolving array of styles into a distinctive aussie blend. Suspekt vs Eegor [Open Records] [Cairns]

Suspekt & Eegor are Jesse Kuch and Richie Blacker, two of the names behind Australian progressive, techno and minimal label Open Records. Richie in particular has a long-standing DJ career, spanning over 13 years and through four countries and has rightfully earned the title of one of Australia's best known and loved progressive DJs for his smooth mixing and wicked track selection. Jesse hasn't been around quite as long, but hasn't wasted time making his mark on the Aussie scene either, playing up and down the coast in clubs, parties and festivals and co-founding Open Records with his friend Ian Woodsman along the way. It is interesting to note that there is around a decade age-difference between the pair,  but Jesse isn't afraid to admit that Richieâ's DJ sets were an earlyinfluence on both his and the Open style and has no doubt helped shape what is has become today. Similar taste and good old fashioned comradery often sees the pair team up behind the decks, with their Earth Freq set in 2009 representing a fresh take on the voodoo progressive and tribal sound, with a few modern tech-sensibilities thrown in to boot. Expect only new sounds from the Open Records stable, including tracks and remixes from Open's new compilation due in April, as well as some of Richie's new production work from his new studio deep in the Cairns rainforest including his stunning remix of Fiord's Keen String.

 

 

Tim Harvey [Green Ant] [Melbourne]

Melbourne DJ and sometimes producer, Tim Harvey has been lurking around the Australian electronic music scene since 1996 when an old school friend took him to an outdoor dance party just outside Melbourne which introduced him to a host of new possibilities for the manipulation of sound. Having played numerous musical instruments as a child, and having partly busked his way through Uni, it wasn’t long before he was swapping the guitar for a computer and starting to experiment with his own compositions. Tim has a long history of involvement in the healthy Melbourne electronic scene that includes Tranceplant, a Melbourne-based collective that ran outdoor events in conjunction with environmental work such as tree plantings. For several years he was one half of the legendary underground dark psychedelic purveyors Alien Earth. His current direction represents a fusion of funky progressive fused with elastic, funktuated electro cuts and a good dose of grinding tech house and techno. It’s a mouthful but generally covers the blur of genres that are mixing across each other at the moment.

 

 

Spyrallus – Live [BomShanka Records] [Brisbane]

Spyrallus grew up on the earthen dance floor, in the lush forested hills near Byron Bay, Australia. After moving north to study Sound Design he soon began producing. Drawing on inspiration derived from the trance floors of Australia and around the world, Spyrallus has used musical expression as his creative output. Stirring the melting pot of expansive timbral leads, quirky sounds and thunderous basslines Spyrallus creates a fine balance between noise and melody as he forges his own style of high energy, fast and furious psychedelic night music.

The tunes marty is making (WITCHIDIGRUB) in his crystal cave like studio in the forest is a fusion of deep raw tribal progressive grooves with huge basslines and tones smeared with a touch of techy frosting and tweaks, its a formula marty has developed through 10 years of positive psychedelic experiences and which he hopes to refine into an intelligent, totally enjoyable fun deep and interestingly original twoked sound, with no musical training at all and being new to the computer world he has a true passion for psychedelic electronic sounds and it shines through in his creations,,, you can be sure this is the begining of a great journey ,,, ENJOY!!! Now after Ten years of djing and tinkering in studios marty has decided to give writing his own music a go , After remixing System Nipels dancefloor hit -dream vision, with good freind javier(Twilight) , which has been released on mushy records with huge praise all over the world. Marty is currently remixing a u-recken track that will be released later this year. Also creating music with absolute legends and dear freinds TIFFON (spliffun),  ALGY (positive thought) and FELIX (terrafractyl).. Felix , Algy and Marty starting a project called FREE STANDING PICKLES ,,whos tracks are absolutely amazing and dancefloor shakers everytime!!!

 

Stuart Wild – Live [Polysonic] [Brisbane]

The Stuart Wild sound broadly ranges from deep organic progressive psychedelia, electro breaks, funky minimal tech, tribal techno, or even as low as downbeat chamber ambiance. The space is created incorporating time as it's key - drawing from mathematics, life, the universe and everything, arrayed into ancient yet new rhythmic geometry. A live set from Stuart is always focussed on transition; be it steep, steady or simply a journey onward, the goal is to carry the observer from one plateau to another, without the pesky bother of noticing the difference between each start and end. No two live sets will be heard the same. ‘Stuart Wild’ is just one of a few music projects – Stuart is also known as ‘Kaneda’ (funky genre bending psychedelic dance) or ‘Archive’ (the Timecode Records label) and is also working on material for an electronic-rock band, as well as collaborations with other well-known artists.

GUI – Live [Fungipsyde] [Brisbane]

Born in !980, west of Sydney in the lower blue mountains, guy had the normal childhood until late primary school found the trumpet. in early high school after moving up to the far north coast near Ballina, found the guitar and then psytrance. In 2005 after many years of being a punter and then a promoter, deciding to start experimenting himself with sound design and architecture. in 2008 after collaborations with a other like minded artists, has been signed to Fungipsyde Records. Now GUI, interestingly morphs nostalgic melodies with abstract structure and form. Ranging from chilled to deep minimal. or from prog to full blown dark psy. Generally using one or multiple synthesizers, midi controllers and occasionally some other toys, GUI is forever trying to pioneer more gaps between genres.

 

Paul Abad [Open Records] [Brisbane]

Paul Abad is a dj, promoter, producer, visual artist and community activator based in south east queensland. He has been part of the local music scene since 1998 and is now a regular on the east coast festival circuit. The width of his experience sees him play everything from outdoor festivals to experimental/sound art gigs to warehouse breaks/glitch nights. After years of exploring a variety of electronic genres in his sets, leaving a trail of wide-opened minds and ears behind him, Paul has shifted his focus to exploring the middle ground of minimal, tribal techno and progressive, and has quickly positioned himself as one of the leading exponents of this sound. Tool of choice these days is laptop with Ableton live and a 32 knob controller, ensuring a seamless and creative approach to mixing. Flow, groove, space and progression are key themes in paul's sets, but of primary importance is the mix - recombining and layering, and responding to an audience.

 

 

Ketamind [Doof Records] [NNSW]

Ziv (aka dj-Ketamind) began playing trance music in Parvati Valley - India in 2000, and since then has played in Israel, France, Portugal, Brazil, Thailand, Turkey, Zambia, Goa, and Holland and all over the east coast of Australia where he is based these days. At all forms of underground parties & festivals such as: Soulclipse, Arcadia, Doof, Moksha, Universo Paralello, Rainbow Serpent, Exodus, Tribeadelic, Maitreya, Cairns Winter Solstice, Earthfreq, Free Creation and more. In 2005, Ziv became label DJ for the Doof Records family, and compiled a cd in 2007 called 'Left Speaker Dancer' which showcases a mix of Australian and international artists that he has collected whilst traveling around the world. Ziv plays clean, nighttime sounds with funky elements and palatable for anyone who wants a truly psychedelic dance floor experience!

 

 

Mesq [Gi’iwa / Vertigo] [Brisbane]

The Reality Pixie and Mesq project has been cultured and cured in the laboratory since 2003 resulting in a manic yet melodic blend of seriously psillycybin sounds that draws inspiration from a diverse decoction of magick,music and mythology. The conduit for this musical experiment is "Mesq" from Brisbane, Australia. A musician for most of his life, Mesq has played drums in punk bands, performed solo acoustic works and studied classical voice over the years. With a keen interest in ecstatic trance and shamanism, Mesq found the Psychedelic Trance party a perfect medium to exorcise his creative aspect. As a composer and DJ for Gi'iwa Productions and Vertigo Records Reality Pixie has performed at festivals and forest parties all around Australia, earning a solid reputation for his energy behind the decks and his tendency for emotional psychedelic journeys. With releases on Gi'iwa Productions, Vertigo Records, Morning Monster Records and more on their way; Reality Pixie brings to you melodies and motifs inspired by the magickal creatures from the jungles of the mind.

Tantrum [Nexus Media / Fungipsyde] [NNSW]

Tantrum is DJ/Producer Alex Richardson from New South Wales Australia. Alex first discovered his passion for psytrance & electronic music in 2000 after being introduced to outdoor “doof” parties in the hills surrounding Byron Bay. After a few years of attending these parties Alex’s interest in party production & djing started to take hold. In the summer of 2002 along with several friends he created Loony Tunez Productions & began holding parties across Northern NSW & Southern Queensland, hosting some of Australia’s & the world’s finest producers & djs. It was at these parties that Tantrum began to DJ more & more, feeding his passion to continue his journey into the “doof” world. As time progressed he gained more experience behind the decks & he now djs at parties & festivals up & down the east coast of Australia, including Earthdance, Royal Doof, Earth Freq, Quantum Relic, Earthcore, Secret Sessions & many more. Recently Tantrum was signed to Dj for South African label Nexus Media & he has also formed a small independent record label called Fungipsyde Records which he now co-runs with Dj Volt, also from Australia. They are currently compiling the first compilation & expect the first release in late 2008. Alex is now focusing on music production, he has 3 upcoming releases & hopes to have a live set ready to unleash by mid 2009.

Foot-e is the co-owner/label manager of bio-sine records whose 2nd compilation Primordial has just been released. Foot-e has been causing mayhem on outdoor dancefloors for many years now, playing from grassroots forest parties in his home area of North Coast of NSW to major festivals alongside some of the world’s biggest names in the outdoor party scene. Foot-e is known for his intelligent moving dj sets that suit the time of the party, from stomping night time madness to atmospheric progressive minimal psy and tech.
 

 

Chaotic Eternal [Native Acoustics] [Brisbane]

Chaotic eternal refers to what happens on the largest scales, Space as a whole is expanding and will continue to do so forever. The prevailing view in physics today is that the dimensionality of spacetime, the qualities of elemental particles and many of the so called physical constants are not built into physical laws but are the outcome of processes known as symmetry breaking. The quantum fluctuations that drive chaotic eternal inflation cause symmetry breaking into multi dimensional reality. Through the realms of darkness in twisted psychedelic soundscapes, chaotic eternal environments are created so that we can break through into these multi dimensions of mind and soul.

Bear.... promoter from Bear Essential Promotions and dj, started promoting back in 2002 and with the equipment on hand decided to take up djing soon after. After a few years he was introduced to the outdoor scence and psytrance and never looked back. Typically known for his nighttime and transitional sets, He is sure to get a party started and is often heard playing a funkier and sometimes funny soumi sound and eclectic chill sets. In the last few years he has played at most major events in Seqld, Secret Sessions, Eath Freq, Quantum Relic, Earthdance, Winter Solisce, Summer Solisce, Earthcore (Qld), Particals of space (Melb), 777 (Nnsw), Infected Mushroom (Qld) and many smaller parties in between.....

Tranceducer isn't just your average, run of the mill vinyl seducer or party producer. No no no. this is a man with an unrivalled passion and motivation that is only matched by his innovation and unique vision.  

Since bursting onto Queensland's dance scene in 04 Tranceducer has held countless dj residencies and plays guest spots at some of Qld's bigger clubs, events and festivals.
