Mauxuam [Interchill] [Italy]
www.mauxuam.net
Mauxuam aka Maurizio Liguori (born in 1965) aka 1210 aka Capt. Kyò, started to make electronic music at the end of the 80's in Italy. At that time he was DJ for some local and pirate radio stations in Bologna and was also organizing many underground club nights and concerts. In 1992 he had his first release on Nation Records in the UK with the Italian band Technogod, a group that toured throughout Europe often opening act for bands like Consolidated, Meat Beat Manifesto and The Young Gods. Around the same time he founded the Lost Legion Alien Collective and Ohmega Tribe, both of whom released music with the seminal ambient label Silent Records amidst others. At the end of the last century Maurizio worked as a producer and remixer for the mainstream Italian music industry as well as doing a few soundtracks for commercials (Volkswagen); theatre and performance; independent video productions; and cartoons. Towards the end of the millennium though, disillusioned by the music business and consumer culture, he sold all of his electronic gear and left for a long nomadic trip to spend many years traveling between India and Australia. After a long break, Mauxuam started to play with computers again doing visuals and some music while traveling. Over those years he played as VJ and DJ'ed many different music styles at events in South Africa, India, Australia, Turkey, Macedonia, UK, Portugal, Italy and Spain. In 2005 he started to release music again on various compilations with Interchill Records, Indica Music and Electronic Soundscapes. With deep roots in afrobeat and psychedelic funk, his style is wide and varied and eludes easy tagging. Over the last 2 years Mauxuam has played live at major festivals and events like the Eclipse in Turkey, Sonica in Italy, Synergy project in London, Waveform and Glade in the UK. He has also collaborated with Ashtech doing the electronics and dubbing for their live shows.

Eric discovered the house scene in san francisco in the early nineties, throughout the sound of the wicked crew sound system ;and a few years later then, after playing a trance set in the main room at the CCC warehouse, he went upstairs and ran upon the downbeat sound... ...and from that moment on,downtempo was to him as big as dance music... back in paris in 97,he played at various underground parties and smoked bar, long sets which always started in a low pitch; held a residency, whenever he wasn t out travelling at la fabrique in the bastille area, now closed. last year he was in goa, mixing chill out at places like the curly s bar, liliputh or the german bakery in anjuna... he also sometimes produce music with his friend matzig aka jahaciddubBackwards Man [Little Rascal Recs] [Cairns]
Backwards Man is Matt Costa of Far North Queensland, Australia. From a young age, Matt was always a keen musician and played drums in various bands with his mates growing up. Intereseted in all sorts of music right from the get go, Matt has been producing various styles of music for many years now. It has only been in the last three years that Matt has immeresed himself in the world of electronica. He started taking influence from the psychadelic music scene and began producing minimal trance and techno under the name Laminimal, amongst others. In early 2008, Matt's love for hip hip/ dubstep and breaks began to resurface and it led him to begin his Backwards Man project. Throw some big phat basslines in with a tasty hip hop beat to get you low, mash up some tweaked out frequenceys and wobble them alongside some deep, dark and twisted melodies... and you have Backwards Man. Backwards Man is heavily inflluenced by glitch hop, dub, techno and dubstep and he draws inspiration from these styles of music and merges them into a sound that cant be catagorised. His music can be dark and twisted, bouncy, happy and fun or dirty lowdown grinding the ground gear. Already Backwards Man is blowing away the QLD music scene with his production skills and original sound, that is seriously funky, quality dancefloor material. The crowds have been loving it and the good word is spreading! 2009 is set to be a massive year for Matt Costa with promoters and labels from all over taking interest. Look out for him if your up in Far North Queensland, and stay tuned because he is set to head down south to spread the love along the east coast. Keep your ears out for some Backwards Man music coming your way!Bumble – Live [Regen] [Sydney]
Bumble has been creating vibrations in the air for some time now (15 years). His other current projects have displaced dust particles in the lower ranges of the spectrum and at greater speeds through AKIN and the duo ONDA with my good mate and mouseman Cam (Thermohaline). This project brings a big smile to my dial. Hope it does yours too.Billy Dread [DreadagadeSS] [Cairns]
The Bad Boy behind North Queensland’s DreadAgade SoundSystem, Billy Dread has been laying it down for over a decade…… A fully endorsed Lawless Renegade and described by some as the angriest man in the reggae scene, Billy started playing at local outdoor parties, many of which he was responsible for producing…. June 2009 will see him working alongside co-conspirators, TinTimeCreations for the return of BushWeek Festival in Far North Queensland…. The last few years have seen him playing at some of the country’s biggest festivals, including RainbowSerpent, Exodus, CairnsWinterSolstice and last year’s EarthFreq …..Expect a set filled with big bass lines and plumpy chunks filled with lashings of funk: fun-filled tunes to get down to….

Scott Large aka mustaphaa has been playing breakbeat/ electro/ glitchywonkbeat since 1995, originally being a regular at warehouse and outdoor parties around Brisbane, SE Qld and NNSW as the underground electronic culture mutated into being. An extended period in UK/Europe in the late 90’s solidified his taste for breaks, dub, polyrhythmic structures and BASS. Mustaphaa DJ’d as well as organising the land care elements at many Subterran gatherings between 2002-5. He now resides in Alice Springs and attempts to infuse the sensations of the vast expanse of the desert into his musical expression. www.myspace.com/neuroncompost
Neuron Compost; organic fertilization of the nervous system, is the creative audio output of 29 year old Reece Stockhausen. Interested in the capability of frequency to affect consciousness, the project is an exploration of the interface between technology and spirit, the pursuit of the transcendent through freeform artistic expression. The resultant sound is a rich abstraction of digitally abused semi-digested audio, intelligently structured, infused with an emotive, visceral presence. Utilizing aesthetics native to all sub-genres of contemporary psychedelia, yet conforming to none, the Neuron Compost style is difficult to define. Displaying a strong disregard for established codes and conventions, it is a solitary voice of dissent, maintaining an aurally challenging, fierce and confronting individuality, whilst retaining a strong dancefloor accessibility and subtle subversive humor. The Neuron Compost liveset is a real-time interactive experiment in group shamanic trance-dance ecstasis. Utilizing his training and experience in meditation and energy dynamics, a space is facilitated whereby the participant is invited to move beyond genetic and social programming and actively engage the holistic Self. Through overloading the reasoning functions of the mind, this is music geared towards deep, esoteric exploration. A passion for innovative sonic aesthetics, coupled with an intuitive insight into dancefloor dynamics, has recently seen Neuron Compost dj sets diversifying into down-tempo/ambient, IDM, dubstep, glitch breaks and minimal techno. The intention is to promote cutting-egde electronica whilst maintaining a coherent and emotionally engaging journey. Reece is also responsible for the formation and artistic direction of Gi'iwa Productions, internationally recognized specialists in the release of forward thinking, truly progressive, psych0funkadelic trancefloor music.

Dan Williamson, AKA Mopoke...35yrs of age, Dan has been attending and participating in the Brisbane doof scene for the past 17 years mainly as a punter but later as crew for sound and light projection but after moving to the Cairns/Daintree region in far north Queensland in 2004 he has become more involved in the chilled side of things. So after prompting from Solatek (Psytek/Freeform Collective) he played his first set at the Cairns Summer Solstice Gathering in 2005. Since then Mopoke has played sets at Techgnosis lifestyle gathering, Cairns Winter Solstice 2006/2007, Sharing flyer space with acts such as Spoonbill, Bent Intent, Neuron Compost, Superfluous Nipple and Suncontrolspecies.. plus Earthfreq Festival 2006/2007 and 2008 with Tegma,Sensient and Monolake,to name a few. He creates a space and brings in the unique magic of the Australian tropics playing a mixture of temple beats, ambient soundscapes, IDM and micro beats with a taste of dub. Seamlessly weaving sounds and consciousness, making everyone of his set's unique.Ghettafunkt [Gi'iwa] [NNSW]
Renowned for her funky, (left of centre) psychedelic sets, Ghettafunkt’s sound has evolved into a multi layered exploration of glitchstepdubhopbreakfunkandnewavegrindcrunk. Combining elements of glitch, dubstep, breaks, funk, hip hop, and yet to be classified genres, this is one dj who will surely surprise the dancefloor with her unique sound.Shards [(!113g@1 v@1u3) ] [Brisbane]
Many DJs claim versatility as one of their major selling points, but in most cases this means they can spin both House & Techno, or Drum’n’Bass & Jungle. DJ/Promoter David Appleseed aka Shards has mixed all of the above & many more….. in fact, if there’s been a sub-genre of electronica emerge in the last 10 years worth playing, chances are Shards discovered it before anyone else in Brisbane, championed it before many in the rest of the world understood it, and could tell you who the Tea Boy was in the studio on the day your favourite track was recorded! All of which would amount to nothing if he didn’t have the skills to mix it with the best in the business- but as his sound has moved over the years from Progressive, Nu-School Breaks & Tech-House at the turn of the century as fireSprite, to the Drum’n’Bass, Dubstep & Glitch Breaks of Shards today, he has also racked up a list of support slots as impressive as his Encyclopedic memory. Nick Warren, Concord Dawn, Future Prophecies, MidiMiliz aka Extrawelt, Eat Static, OTT, Shpongle & Skream are just some of the leading lights David has shared a stage or DJ booth with over his decade-long career- playing events such as Victoria’s Rainbow Serpent Festival, Earthcore Global Carnival in both Victoria and Queensland, and Infected Mushroom’s 2006 Australian Tour. Bookings from interstate to perform with the likes of PsiDream & Motion for the No Frills Crew in Sydney, and Mindscape for Melbourne’s Broken Beat Assault have also become regular additions in David’s calendar. Constant exposure to music of many styles has provided a certain moulding for Fungalicious’ current tastes in electronic music. Experience in classical piano training at a young age developed a specific taste for well written melodies and emotive musical structure. After first being exposed to the electronic structure in her early teens, she discovered that the electronic musical entity, unlike an acoustic ensemble of limited instruments, is somewhat unlimited; caged only by the imagination of the artist. After being involved in many electronic music scenes for a number of years, there evolved an inspiration to take control and become a part of the music delivery. Thus 'fungalicious' was born. Enjoying musical entities for what they are, fungalicious is not one to place limitations by only delivering a certain 'genre'. Quite simply aspiring to deliver something a little different that people weren't necessarily able to access in their certain listening circles.Rybery [Disconekta] [S.E.QLD]

This year has seen Fold taking a sabbatical from the land of puter music to lose the plot on turntablism and vinyl. after a year of dedicating every spare second to the wheels and every spare dollar to the tunes (no really- EVERY spare dollar ;-) Fold has finally got his shi-ite together, and is busy dropping fat abstract hiphop and dubstep sets around the place.
